AATF Minnesota members rallied together to support the Minnesota United FC (Football Club) on Saturday, April 13, at Allianz Field in Saint Paul. The Loons (the team’s chosen mascot and name) came out strong but, in the end, could not stop the Houston Dynamo FC and fell to them with a score of 2-1.
Several schools were represented in our group. A large contingency from the College of Saint Benedict and Saint John’s University came for the evening. One of their professors, Ana Conboy, declared, “What a delightful evening! And we couldn't have asked for better weather! C'était un bon match—malgré la défaite. Merci de l'initiative!”
What a beautiful night!
Choosing a game in early April can be risky: will it be snowing and 10 degrees or comfortable or doable at 45 degrees. That night, however, was our lucky night. Uncharacteristically beautiful weather and temps in the 70’s made our evening in the outdoor stadium unforgettable.
Group events at Allianz Field in St. Paul. How about next year?
Group events with the sporting club are intended to bring like-minded fans together for a fun evening. At a price that is 30% below the full-price tickets for that section, it surely is a bargain for a professional sporting event. Also, Allianz Field, which opened in April 2019, is a state-of-the-art facility, with “top-notch amenities and an amazing view of the pitch” per their site. With 19,400 seats, there is rarely a match that is not sold out. The excitement of the crowd is elevated by the official soccer supporter’s groups (The Black Cloud, the Red Loons, and the True North Elite) who encourage participation and engagement in the match.
AATF Minnesota hopes to offer this experience again next year. Check back on our site after the first of the year for details on how you and your family, friends, or organization can be part of this fun, AATF Minnesota event.
