AATF Minnesota
French Teacher of the Year
2024 - 2025
Jackie Parr
Stillwater Area High School
Madame Jackie Parr, a teacher at Stillwater Area High School, has been named Minnesota’s French Teacher of the Year by the American Association of Teachers of French – Minnesota Chapter.
Jackie has dedicated her career in education to the teaching of the French language and cultures. She embodies the qualities of a master teacher – one who deeply understands the principles of teaching and curriculum development, and who has a proven track record of fostering student growth. Her enthusiasm for French is evident in her years of study, professional development, curriculum design, and travel, while her care and concern for student growth goes far beyond academics. Mary Elllen Kasak-Saxler, a former colleague, captured Jackie’s essence with these words:
If I were to paint a picture of Jackie in the classroom it would likely be a watercolor with a fine set of outlines in ink. She has both softness and definition as she reaches out to find the best in each of her students. While her classroom is language focused and structured, it maintains a warmth and openness that draws students in. Balance, a sense of humor, flexibility and respect distinguish her relationships with her students, encouraging many to continue their language study.
Jackie’s support, influence, and mentorship extend well beyond the high school classroom. Daniel Weisbrod, one of her former students, says that “Jackie Parr has been one of the most compassionate, enthusiastic, and supportive women I have ever known. Her devotion to her subject and her students motivates me to inspire others as much as she has inspired me”.
Jackie will be honored this spring at the annual AATF – Minnesota Awards dinner. More information about the dinner will follow as planning proceeds. Hope to see you there.
Félicitations, Jackie! We are honored to have you represent us.
